Perched on the banks of the Delaware River, the Grundy Museum stands as a testament to the Gilded Age. When restoring the multi-story porches—a defining feature of the riverfront façade—museum leadership needed a material that could withstand harsh riverfront elements without sacrificing historical integrity.
The Performance Profile
Americana™ wood undergoes a chemical-free thermal modification process using only heat and steam. This cooks the sugars out of the wood, removing the food source for rot and insects while making the boards exceptionally stable. For the Grundy Museum, this provided a natural wood porch floor that looked appropriate for 1884 but performs with the resilience required for 2025.
The flooring features a classic solid finish using Benjamin Moore Woodluxe® Water-Based Solid Stain, which bonds perfectly to the low-moisture modified wood. From herringbone detailing to the sweeping veranda, the result preserves the soul of the Grundy home for generations to come.
