Located on the Iowa side of the Missouri River, the Charles E. Lakin Foundation Pier extends approximately 300 feet from the abutment. Completed in 2025, this project showcases a striking combination of raw industrial materials and luxury finishes, giving visitors an immersive waterfront experience.
Custom Solutions for Streamlined Installation
The pier integrates structural Corten steel with porcelain pavers and Americana™ Thermally Modified Ash decking and overhead structures. For this intricate design, Americana was able to provide specific custom lengths, which significantly streamlined the installation process for the Lueder Construction carpentry team.
The extremely durable and dense Ash hardwood was chosen for its rugged performance in exposed environments. When wet, the thermally modified wood takes on a rich, dark brown color that perfectly complements the rusty, weathered patina of the neighboring raw steel components.
