Americana™ Project Profile

innovative. natural. renewable.

JAG Construction in Asheville, NC is best known for concepting and building green homes. “We were first introduced to the Americana™ thermally modified wood products about a year ago,” says Tim Nylander, a Project Manager at JAG Construction. “Given our focus on building green homes we always have an eye out for innovative new products in the space, and in particular, we love to make use of natural, renewable products whenever possible.”

Late last fall, the company completed construction of a signature green home for the Asheville Home Builders Association “2020 Parade of Homes.” The home features two floors of outdoor decking and skirting, with the lower level surrounding a swimming pool. “We wanted to source and feature a natural wood product for the decking, ideally something native grown to help complete the story of green living and sustainability. But, we needed something that could hold up to the elements. Our team has been wanting to try thermally modified ash for a while, but we couldn’t find a good supplier, and that’s when I discovered Americana,” commented Nylander. He continued, “It’s really easy to work with the Americana product, and with many other options, like composites or even imported Ipe, the dust can be problematic. With Americana you are working with natural wood, so the dust simply isn’t an issue, and even better Americana offers a good price point competitive to composite material.”
